The Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a surgical branch of dentistry and this speciality is the art and science of skill and acuity. This specialization aims in addressing various fractures of facial bones, pathologies, orthognathic surgery pertaining to head and neck emphasizing prevention and awareness of the disease and deformity among the population.
The department offers undergraduate programs that also includes hands-on training in minor surgical procedures and exceptional training for post-graduates indicating a comprehensive approach to advanced dental and maxillofacial education.
Basic life support (BLS) programs conducted for medical and non-medical population for handling emergency situations
The department conducts research to gather data on trauma care, pathologies, orthognathic surgery and facial aesthetics. This information helps in developing evidence-based strategies for management of oral health issues. The institution inculcate the post-graduates to attend peripheral postings for orofacial clefts and oral cancers at various esteemed centers to enhance the clinical and practical knowledge in all sub-specialities of oral surgery. The department places significant emphasis on developing research skills among dental students, which can contribute to advancements in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
The goal of the oral & maxillofacial surgery program is to provide a basic and advanced education in oral & maxillofacial surgery thus helping a student to be able to deal with the various pathologies of the teeth, face and the jawbones.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery hosted globally renowned craniofacial surgeon ‘Professor Dr. S.M. Balaji in the Student Development Program “Know Your Author” on 10.05.2024. Prof Balaji enthralled the audience by showcasing many of his advanced and state-of-the-art craniofacial and maxillofacial surgical procedures. He further encouraged the students by answering all their questions enthusiastically. He also distributed several textbooks authored by him to the best outgoing students of each year.
